Lubetkin & Co. Communications Launches New Podcast Focusing on Book Authors

Philadelphia Inquirer Reporter DiStefano, Author of Book on Comcast, Is Premiere Guest

CHERRY HILL, NJ – December 20, 2005 – Philadelphia Inquirer business writer Joseph N. DiStefano, the author of COMCASTed: How Ralph and Brian Roberts Took Over America’s TV, One Deal at a Time, is the premiere guest interviewed on a new Lubetkin & Co. Communications audio podcast program, “The Middle Chamber Books Podcast,” which features interviews with authors and offers them an opportunity to discuss their books in a podcast environment.

DiStefano covers banking and finance for the Inquirer. His book, published by Camino Books, a Philadelphia publisher (ISBN: 0940159821), is available for sale on Lubetkin & Co.’s Middle Chamber Bookstore website, at www.middlechamberbooks.com.

In the podcast interview, DiStefano describes his research for the book, the challenges of writing about one of Philadelphia’s largest companies, and Comcast’s reaction to the book – including a humorous experience when Suzanne Roberts and her daughter actually attended one of DiStefano’s book signings at a local book store.

"COMCASTed has been reviewed in magazines and newspapers, and blogged on the Web. I've spoken about it in colleges, libraries and bookstores, and appeared on TV and radio programs. But this is the first time I've ever been podcasted," said DiStefano. "Steve Lubetkin has done a very cool thing. He has years of careful experience in radio, reporting, and business, and it really shows in his work. It's great that Lubetkin's smart and efficient use of technology has made his brand of media entrepreneurship accessible to so many."

“Like Joe, we believe podcasting offers a unique and valuable opportunity for authors to discuss their work in a controlled environment, while giving interested readers some real insight into the thinking and personality of writers whose works they might like to sample,” said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Lubetkin & Co. “Our Middle Chamber Book Store, an Amazon.com partner, will also benefit by making available to our customers podcast interviews providing additional insight into the authors whose books we sell. We expect to be seeking opportunities to partner with publishers on advertising and promotional opportunities in connection with these podcasts in the future.”

Middle Chamber Books (www.middlechamberbooks.com) is an online bookstore affiliated with Amazon.com and managed by Lubetkin & Co.’s publishing division. DiStefano’s COMCASTed book is a featured selection at Middle Chamber Books. (“Middle Chamber” is an allegorical reference to a location deep within King Solomon’s Temple, where, according to legend, initiates were taught the seven liberal arts and sciences. Middle Chamber Books features books in these genres, Lubetkin said.)

Podcasts are digital audio programs distributed via the Internet. Listeners can download podcasts and play them on their computers or transfer them to digital music devices. The programs got their name from the popular practice of transferring them to the Apple iPod music device. Podcasts are either posted to a website, a weblog (“blog”), or made available through a technology called “Really Simple Syndication” (RSS) that lets listeners subscribe to specific podcasts and automatically download them into their portable digital audio players. The Middle Chamber Books Podcast is available in all three methods (see Editors Note below for specifics).
Publishers and authors interested in scheduling authors’ appearances on the podcast should contact Lubetkin & Co. via email (steve@lubetkin.net) or through the bookstore website.

In December 2005, Lubetkin & Co. produced the first in a series of location podcast recordings for the New Jersey Bankers Association, an economic outlook program.

Lubetkin, who hosts the Middle Chamber Books podcasts, is a veteran broadcast anchor and corporate communications executive for Bank of America, Fleet, Summit Bank, Standard & Poor’s, Unisys, and Conrail. His firm specializes in strategic communications and technology advice for corporate clients, executives, and other organizations. Its website is www.lubetkin.net.

Temple Emanuel, Largest Reform Synagogue in New Jersey,
Breaks World Record in Dreidel Spinning
Audio news release may be downloaded here. Audio file is stereo MP3, 1:45, standard outcue.

CHERRY HILL, NJ -- December 18, 2005 -- Just a week before the beginning of Hanukkah, Temple Emanuel in Cherry Hill, N.J., the largest Reform synagogue in New Jersey, has broken the world’s record for dreidel spinning, with 541 dreidels spun simultaneously for at least ten seconds.
According to the Guinness Book of World’s Records, the previous world’s record of 535 people simultaneously spinning dreidels was set by University of Maryland Hillel in 1999. Today’s dreidel spin record involved 578 participants, including – in an ecumenical demonstration of interfaith cooperation -- a contingent of students from Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, a private Catholic school in Pennsauken.
“We are absolutely thrilled that we’ve broken the world’s record for dreidel spinning,” said Rabbi Debbie Cohen, director of life long learning at the synagogue and organizer of the world record dreidel spin. “More importantly, we gave members of our temple and the surrounding community an exciting, fun opportunity to come together in a playful way and get to know our synagogue a little better.”
The dreidel spin world record is subject to acceptance by the Guinness editors. The final count was supervised by Harry Platt, a councilman and former mayor of Voorhees, and Steven Burkett, a member of M’kor Shalom Synagogue in Cherry Hill and immediate past president of the regional council of the Union for Reform Judaism.
Founded in Cherry Hill (then Delaware Township) in 1950, Temple Emanuel, a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, serves some 1,000 families from Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties.

CHERRY HILL, NJ – November 29, 2005 – NJBankers, a trade association representing the New Jersey banking industry, has partnered with Cherry Hill-based Lubetkin & Co. Communications to offer audio broadcasts of selected seminar programs to its members over the Internet, a delivery mechanism known as “podcasting.” This will be NJBankers’ first venture into Internet distribution of its audio programming.

Lubetkin & Co. will produce podcast recordings and deliver the Internet podcast “feeds” to NJBankers so that association members can download the recordings for review on their computers or portable digital audio players.

“Our members are becoming increasingly sophisticated about the use of time-shifting technology like podcasting for their continuing education activities, so we are pleased to be able to offer our members this opportunity to hear our panel programs at a time that’s convenient for them,” said Timothy E. Doherty, NJBankers vice president and director of communications. “Podcasting is a cost-effective and engaging way for our members to participate in these programs, even if they cannot attend in person.”

The first NJBankers podcast program will be “Forecast 2006,” a December 1, 2005 panel discussion on the New Jersey state economy, with participants Thomas A. Bracken, President & CEO, Sun Bancorp, Inc.; Dr. Joseph J. Seneca, a professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy and Chairman of the New Jersey Council of Economic Advisors; and Janine J. Akey, Chief Examiner, NJ Department of Banking & Insurance.

“NJBankers is taking a dramatic leap ahead of other financial trade associations in New Jersey by embracing podcasting technology to increase the reach of its excellent seminar programs,” said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Lubetkin & Co. Communications. “Businesses and trade organizations like NJBankers can provide valuable information to an even broader group of stakeholders through Internet-delivered audio broadcasts like this one.”

Lubetkin & Co. launched its Internet broadcasting practice in April 2005, counseling clients about the effective use of podcasts and weblogs, or “blogs,” online journals that facilitate two-way communications with customers, employees, and others.

Lubetkin, a veteran of more than 25 years in corporate communications, is a frequent speaker on technologies like blogging and podcasting. He worked as a broadcast news anchor and hosted more than 1,000 investor relations conference calls during a ten-year stint on Wall Street. Nostra Aetate Award for Ecumenical Relations
Presented to Local Interfaith Leaders

Leading Catholic and Jewish Theologians Will Commemorate
40th Anniversary Of Groundbreaking Vatican Document
On Catholic-Jewish Relations

CHERRY HILL, NJ November 7, 2005 -- Distinguished Catholic and Jewish religious educators will lead an interfaith community discussion of the many significant changes in Christian-Jewish relations over the last 40 years at the Cherry Hill Public Library on December 4 at 2 p.m. At the program, two leaders of the South Jersey Catholic Jewish Commission one Jewish and one Catholic -- will each receive the Commissions Nostra Aetate Award in recognition of their long support for ecumenical relations.

Receiving the Catholic-Jewish Commission's Nostra Aetate Award are Murray Gass of Cherry Hill and Gloria Mazziotti of Audubon. The pair is being recognized for their leadership in improving interfaith understanding and cooperation in Southern New Jersey, through their years of interfaith work including the creation of the Catholic-Jewish Institute of Understanding, a program of adult religious study for Jews and Christiansin an ecumenical environment, and the creation of the Catholic-Jewish Commission of Southern New Jersey, a joint enterprise of the Diocese of Camden and the Jewish Federation/Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey.

Murray Gass has been an active leader in the Jewish community for decades seeking to further better relations and understanding between the Jewish and non-Jewish communities. Serving as chair of the JCRC Interfaith Committee for many years, he helped create the Catholic-Jewish Institute of Understanding, the adult education program jointly sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden and the JCRC. On behalf of the Jewish community, Gass played a key role in the creation of the Catholic-Jewish Commission in 2001. His wife Sibyl, a past president of the JCRC, has been an active partner with Murray in his interfaith activities.

Gloria Mazziotti is the Co-President of the Catholic-Jewish Commission and is Treasurer of the Richard C. Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center of the Delaware Valley. A participant in the Catholic-Jewish Institute from its inception, she and her husband John participated in the JCRCs Interfaith Israel mission in 2000.
She joined the planning committee of the Institute and served as a leader in the creation of the Commission. Mazziotti became a Co-President representing the Catholic side of the interfaith partnership. She also serves as an officer of the Holocaust Museum and Education Center.

The program will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the papal encyclical Nostra Aetate (In Our Time), a groundbreaking document issued by the Second Vatican Council in 1965, which helped reduce centuries of anti-Semitism by calling for ecumenical dialogue with Jews and Muslims.

Nostra Aetate denounced persecution or hatred of the Jewish people, and rejected discrimination because of race, color, condition of life, or religion. Nostra Aetate also absolves Jews of any blame for the death of Jesus, explicitly stating that what happened in His passion cannot be charged against all the Jews, without distinction, then alive, nor against the Jews of today. The document created a foundation for broader understanding and extensive dialogue between Roman Catholics and Jews in the four decades since its publication.

"The publication of Nostra Aetate not only brought about a fundamental historic change in Catholic-Jewish relations, but it also had a profound impact on Jewish relations and dialogue with other mainline Christian denominations, " said Alan Respler, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council and Co-President of the Catholic-Jewish Commission. "These two outstanding leaders of our interfaith dialogue truly personify the spirit and intention of Nostra Aetate for our two faiths here in South Jersey," said Dr. Michael Partnow, Co-President of the Commission.

"It is appropriate for us to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Nostra Aetate as an important milestone between Jews and Catholics, by honoring those who took a leadership role in developing this relationship, he added."

The speakers, Sister Mary C. Boys and Rabbi Eugene Korn, will engage in a dialogue moderated by Rabbi Eron and Fr. Wallace. Both speakers are nationally renowned experts on theology and Christian-Jewish relations.

The Nostra Aetate event is sponsored by the Catholic-Jewish Commission of Southern New Jersey and the JCRC. Although the entire community is welcome and the admission to the program is free, those interested in attendingare requested to RSVP to the Commission c/o the Jewish Community Relations Council office at (856) 751-9500, x117, or e-mail to hklimberg@jfedsnj.org.

Delaware Valley Businesses Encouraging Employees to Contribute Funds, Volunteer Time
To Hurricane Relief Effort, Survey Indicates

Companies Urging Employees to Contribute at a Greater Rate than They Are Giving

CHERRY HILL, NJ October 11, 2005 -- Just under half of the Delaware Valley small businesses and nonprofit organizations participating in a recent survey are doing more to collect donations from their employees to help with Hurricane Katrina and Rita relief effortsthan they are contributing from company funds, but nearly all the respondents said they are digging deep into their own personal funds for the relief efforts.

According to the online survey conducted by Lubetkin & Co. Communications, a Cherry Hill-based communications and public relations consultancy, 45.3 percent of the survey respondents said their companies or organizations were collecting funds from employees for the relief effort, but only 37.7 percent said those companies or organizations were contributing company funds.

The results seem to suggest that the hurricane relief efforts are being driven forward primarily by individuals emotionally moved by the devastation, said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Lubetkin & Co. Its interesting that the companies responding to the survey are urging their employees to give money at a greater rate than the companies themselves are contributing.

Nearly 92 percent of respondents said they were contributing their own money to the effort. About 49 percent of those whose companies are donating cash said their companies were donating $2,000 or more to the relief effort. About 42% said their firms donations were in the $500 range or below, and 20% indicated that some portion of their companies contributions came from a company foundation.

Nearly 88 percent of the respondents said they personally were giving gifts of $500 or less. The other 12 percent said their personal gifts were between $500 and $1,500.

Other relief activities that respondents said their companies were conducting:

    · collecting goods for delivery to victims (22.6%)

    · encouraging employees to volunteer with local relief groups (21.7%)

    · encouraging volunteering with relief groups in the affected area (13.2%)

    · helping victims find housing (10.4%)

    · actually providing housing for victims (5.7%)

Almost one-fifth of the individuals responding said that,in addition to donating their own money, they were collecting goods for delivery to victims, 14 percent said they were volunteering locally, and 10 percent said they were collecting money from other people for the effort. Only one survey respondentindicated actually volunteering in the hurricane zone.
More male respondents than female (21.3% vs. 15.2%) said they were collecting goods for hurricane victims, and were volunteering locally (18% male vs. 12.1% female).

Lubetkin & Co. Communications is a diversified communications, public relations, and technology counseling firm. Survey Methodology: The results are based on an online,email-invitation survey conducted using SurveyMonkey.com. Approximately 1,000 email invitations were distributed to individuals in the Lubetkin & Co. Communications email database in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and several Pennsylvania Counties, and a reminder was sent to those who did not respond after the first week. Responses were received from 106 individuals, a 10% response rate. While the survey results cannot be validated for statistical significance, they provide directional information about the behavior of individuals and organizations within the survey universe. Steve Lubetkin, Cherry Hill-based PR and Technology Counselor, Authors Article on Conference Panel Moderation in Financial Planning magazine

Financial Planning is a leading magazine for financial advisors

CHERRY HILL, NJ – September 2, 2005 – An article on how to be effective as moderator of a panel discussion by Steve Lubetkin, managing partner of Cherry Hill-based Lubetkin & Co. Communications, appears in the September 2005 issue of Financial Planning, a leading professional magazine for investment advisors and wealth counselors.

Lubetkin, a veteran of more than two decades in corporate public relations, and a former chairman of the Financial Communications Section of the Public Relations Society of America, wrote the article based on his experiences counseling bond rating analysts at Standard & Poor’s about how to make public presentations.

“People are frequently asked to be a panel moderator at a conference or seminar, but they don’t always realize that this role can be an excellent place for them to demonstrate their own expertise, rather than just leaving the commentary to the panelists,” said Lubetkin, who counsels senior corporate executives about effective public speaking and media interviewing. “We want our clients to be effective at conveying their key messages through whatever speaking opportunities they have, and just because you are moderating a panel doesn’t mean you have to be moderate.”

Lubetkin is a veteran corporate communications executive for Bank of America, Fleet Bank, Summit Bank, Standard & Poor’s, Unisys, and Conrail.

Lubetkin & Co. Communications specializes in strategic communications advice for corporate clients, executives, and other organizations. A copy of the Financial Planning article can be downloaded for free at the Lubetkin & Co. website, http://www.lubetkin.net.

    Lubetkin Communications Launches Weblog and Internet Broadcasting Practice;
Will Develop Blogging and Podcasting Strategies for Clients

CHERRY HILL, NJ – April 18, 2005 – Lubetkin & Co. Communications LLC, a diversified communications consultancy here, has introduced a “blogging and podcasting” practice for its clients, the firm announced.
“Blogs,” or weblogs, are chronological diary/journals published to a website. They are often written by corporate executives to share day-to-day insights into their businesses, and to open a two-way dialogue with customers and others interested in their products and services.
“Podcasts” are recorded audio programs delivered via the Internet to listeners who can download the audio files to their Apple Ipods or other digital audio devices.
Both blogs and podcasts can be delivered automatically to subscribers through the use of technology called “Really Simple Syndication,” or RSS.
“We’ve been experimenting with leading edge technologies like these since dumb terminals attached to minicomputers ushered in the earliest days of the information revolution in the 1970s,” said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Lubetkin & Co. “We believe that expertise uniquely positions Lubetkin & Co. to provide strategic insights into the appropriate ways to integrate weblogs and podcasts into a company’s overall communications program.”
To enable clients and prospective clients to experience blogs and podcasts directly, Lubetkin & Co. has launched three blogs and associated podcasts.
“Lubetkin’s Other Blog,” features Steve’s personal commentary on the news media, journalism, and public relations, at http://lubetkinsotherblog.blogspot.com. The blog also includes an audio podcast that visitors can download as MP3 audio files. Among recent podcasts are recorded presentations at conferences and seminars on public relations.
A second blog, “CompuSchmooze,” at http://compuschmooze.blogspot.com, supplements Lubetkin’s monthly column on technology in the Jewish Community Voice of Southern New Jersey, a newspaper reaching some 40,000 subscribers. The CompuSchmooze podcasts feature interviews with technology company executives associated with products and services profiled in the CompuSchmooze column. More information is at http://www.compuschmooze.com.

The third blog, “Lubetkin Broadcasting,” will allow clients to distribute their news releases and digital content by taking advantage of the RSS syndication system to deliver releases, audio news actualities and interviews, and digital photos directly to news media subscribing to the feed.
All three blogs are RSS-distributed through the feedburner.com web distribution. Subscribers using RSS reader software can subscribe to the blogs at http://feeds.feedburner.com/lubetkinsotherblog, http://feeds.feedburner.com/compuschmooze, and http://feeds.feedburner.com/lubetkinbroadcasting.
Lubetkin is a veteran corporate communications executive for Fortune 100 companies. His firm specializes in strategic communications advice for corporate clients, executives, and other organizations. Clients include a national retailer and an international professional association.
