Brookdale Community College’s Conflict Resolution Forum Available as Podcasts

CHERRY HILL, NJ – November 13, 2006 – Cherry Hill-based Professional Podcasts LLC, a division of Lubetkin Communications, has created podcast audio programs from the Fourth Annual Conflict Resolution Forum held earlier this year by Brookdale Community College’s Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution.

Professional Podcasts, a leading New Jersey producer of Internet-distributed audio programs (known as “podcasts”) for businesses and organizations, produced two podcast audio programs featuring the presentation “The World of Islam,” featuring Audrey Shabbas, noted author and National Representative of the Middle East Policy Council. The event was jointly sponsored by the Brookdale International Center, the Brookdale Center for Holocaust Studies, Brookdale Office of Student Life and Activities, and Alwalweed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, Georgetown University. More information about the program is available at http://www.brookdale.cc.nj.us/fac/tlt/ww2/2006forum.php.

“We are thrilled to be using podcasting technology to make our programs available to a much wider audience,” said Prof. Paul Zigo, director of the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution and an assistant professor of history at Brookdale. “Our goal has always been to engage the widest possible audience in a productive dialogue about how better multicultural understanding can help reduce or resolve conflicts. By making our conversations on these topics accessible to a worldwide audience through podcasts, we hope to contribute to the overall goal of achieving that understanding.”

The Conflict Resolution podcasts are the first in a series of podcasts being produced by Brookdale with Professional Podcasts. The firm will also produce and distribute a podcast from the upcoming November 30 seminar on the changing face of journalism.

“Using podcasting to extend the reach of this important dialogue on conflict resolution demonstrates that Brookdale and its event partners have a clear vision for best-practices integration of such new social media into educational applications,” said Steven L. Lubetkin, managing partner of Professional Podcasts. “Brookdale is ahead of the curve because it realizes that podcasts can provide its communities with important information more conveniently. It doesn’t limit those audiences to a less-flexible programming format like a conference call or a web stream, where busy and time-constrained participants either must gather at a common time or remain stationed by a computer. Podcast listeners get the information they need – delivered at a time when they want it.”

Podcasts are digital audio or video recordings distributed using Internet technology. Visitors to an organization’s website can download podcast programs for review on their desktop computers, or synchronize them with a portable digital media device. Software programs called “feed readers” or “podcatchers” allow users to “subscribe” to podcasts at no cost, and receive new programs in a podcast series automatically.

Visitors to Brookdale’s web site (http://www.brookdalecc.edu) can download the podcast recording for review on their computers or portable digital audio players at no cost. The podcasts are also available on a special podcast blog site (http://bccpodcasts.blogspot.com), an RSS feed for subscribers (http://feeds.feedburner.com/bccpodcasts), and through the Apple iTunes Music Store (www.itunes.com).

About Brookdale’s Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution

Brookdale’s Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution is dedicated to stimulating and fostering the study of the historical, political, social, economic and military aspects of World War II in order to understand the impact of the war on world history and to help future generations avoid armed conflict in the resolution of global problems. The Center is a resource open to all. It will educate the community about the key events of that time, the political and military leaders who waged the war and made the peace, and those who served on the battlefield as well as on the home front. The ultimate goal of the Center is to utilize the lessons learned from World War II to prevent the recurrence of global armed conflict in a world of sovereign states with divergent interests, wants and needs.
